Helping Quad City urban students realize their full potential - in school and in life

World of Work Symposium

The World of Work Symposium is a one-day event presented by QC United in partnership with the Stanley Foundation and the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency. The event is offered free to students and includes a diverse selection of speakers with international business/work experience. The symposium also includes a career and college fair. Participating high schools are responsible for arranging student transportation.

What previous high school participants have to say…
The most recent World of Work Symposium was held Tuesday, April 21st, 2015 at the Mississippi Bend AEA and served nearly 100 students from four area high schools. Below are the student survey responses regarding this event.

Student Participants:
Teachers/counselors from Quad City area high schools are invited to register a designated number of 10th and 11th grade students to QC United’s  annual “World of Work” Symposium. The purpose of this all-day event is to connect students with professionals from a variety of backgrounds to learn about the hard and soft skills needed to be competitive in a global workforce. This event is open to students who are serious about pursuing college or training beyond high school. Students can choose three breakout sessions to attend and they will hear from an inspiring keynote speaker who has traveled the World and who will offer insight regarding how to navigate a diverse and often complex environment.

QC United strives to present a diverse offering of speakers with international experience who can offer students increased understanding of the skills and strategies needed to navigate within a global workforce. We invite any professional interested in speaking at this event to contact us at  for more information on how to get involved.

College/Career Fair Participants:
QC United understands the importance of providing small group opportunities for students to connect with college representatives and career representatives where they can ask specific questions and gain insight from professionals who have much to share regarding education and career opportunities. QC United invites all career/college representatives interested in participating in the career/college fair for the Symposium to contact us for registration information. Representatives will attend the Symposium from 11:15am to 1pm and lunch will be provided.
